Kawasaki Twin Owners Forum – Gone?

If you found this page, you likely were Googling around to find out what happened to the Kawasaki Twins Owners Forum, originally created by the great “Odd Ivar”.

I was an early *strong* forum member, administrator, and supporter, but stopped visiting there in the past years — only because I ran out of free time, not because I didn’t want to…

Anyway, I don’t know much about what happened, but I understand from forum regulars Loic and Martin (and others who are searching) that it has recently disappeared.

As I write this, Loic fears that the forum and all of the contents are totally lost, due to a disappearance/failure of the forum hosting company.  If you know different, please feel free to comment below.

Feel free to use this page/post and the comment section below to post what you know about the state of the forum, and let’s see if anything can be recovered or maybe started anew. Ivar was so good to all of us for so long before his passing, that I’m hoping something can be done to continue the community he fostered. The least I can do is use this site aggregate and provide updates.

Ride safe…

I am very bummed about this loss of the forum. 🙁 I was only gone for a few months and it vanished.

I found that at least some of it is available on the wayback machine but it seems far from complete. Maybe someone smarter than I can figure out a way to piece it together and retrieve what is stored there and recreate the forum. I sure hope so. I hadn’t visited this summer and if I had known it was going away I could have archived the whole site beforehand.

Maybe, just maybe, the domain host has it archived?

This is so heart breaking 🙁 I’m in the middle of bringing my beautiful KZ750 twin back to life, and this site has been a wonderful support. I don’t know much that could help. The topics to the left still seem to be working, but every comment thread I remember from before is gone. I hope at least a few KZ fans are still around. I’ll be here!

What an incredible loss! The collective info from the forum is, likely, irreplaceable. Just terrible news.

I had to do quite a bit of googling just to find this page. I’m sure that there are a lot of lost members out there. Thanks for posting this BiqueToast.

    This will be missed!!!

    kzrider.com is great too.

OK, so I don’t know a lot about this stuff but I know time is of the essence if we want to retrieve the forum. I don’t think there is enough on wayback machine to save. Its just a few links.

Doesn’t Loic or you Bique know who was paying for the site? A very VERY fast phone call by the former owner to whoever was hosting the site might be the only way to get it back. Below is what I was able to find from when the domain was last renewed and the forum was still active. This leads to arevy.com, but since the owner of that is protected by whoisguard it looks like a dead end.

    @82KZ305Belt –
Unfortunately…. It appears the entire hosting company went belly-up. A couple quick searches shows that other forum owners have lost everything as well. I really don’t know who did the move from the old forum host to that one either… I wish I did, but I don’t know if much can be done about it now. Does anyone else know? Let us know…

I was gone because my computer crashed. I’ve been trying to get back on for years. Any chance we can rebuild the site? I’m now a moderator on another site that is doing very well on member donations.
Maybe we can start anew? I very much enjoyed talking with the members and would like to get reacquainted.

    @antiq –
I tell you what… I sure miss those days, I felt quite a kinship with the folks there. But my life changed; I changed jobs, family life got busier, and I just don’t have the spare time to provide the care and feeding that a forum requires. Some day when I retire, I’ll jump back in with both boots… 😉

In the meantime, I ride my KZs all the time, and every time I work on something I’m reminded of where I learned it and all the help I got… and gave…

By the way, please post the name of your new forum…? I’ve been out of it so I’d like to know where ya’ll are these days…

Hello, as Jeremy said, the forum of KZ400 disappeared! I contacted Ole via Faffi (Norwegian too) but it seems that the host is gone and I do not know the reason! it is unfortunate that I could not remedy this, a lot of data are missing. if I knew how to get the information, I would even paying.

Odd Ivar had created this forum, I will keep him http://www.kz400.com its website.
but all these posts went with him.
I would keep all my memories in discussions with him and also former members of the forum who participated in its wealth and its proper functioning.

Thank you to Biquetoast, Eirik (Faffi) to the founding members of the forum
hope to see you on a newly created forum KZ400

I set up a free forum at

    http://kztwins.boards.net/

I have used another free forum at that site for a couple years and it works pretty good. Its nothing fancy but the server seems very reliable. Its never been down in the couple years I’ve used it, so very reliable.

There is nothing in the forum now, just a blank forum waiting to be formatted and set up. I have no time or forum management skills to actually make this functional though. I just set it up in case it inspires someone else who does have the time and interest to take it over. I’d be glad to me a moderator, which for me would just be kicking total a-holes off. I’m pretty tolerant of language as long as people aren’t too insulting, racist, sexist, bigoted, etc.

I’d gladly hand the whole thing over to someone else, preferably someone with a long history at the old forum(s) who understands the “spirit” the old one operated on. Oh, and you’d have to take a a solemn oath to back the forum up now and then. Grrrrrrr

Anyway if anyone is interested in setting that forum up just register and PM me. I’m the only member. 🙂

There are plenty of other free forum options out there too, just thought I’d throw this out there as a starting point if anyone is motivated enough to work on it.

    @ julio –

Go to this page: http://kz750twins.com/?p=15 and scroll to the very bottom, and you’ll find the manual for the b4 at the bottom of the page.
I have a link to this page at the right of every page, under Categories you look under “Reference” and then “Manuals”.
    I hope that helps!

If anyone is interested, I finished setting up the basic bike forums on a resuscitated kawasaki twins forum at the link above, kztwins.boards.net

I kept most of the old structure but not all of it, because there’s no need to when nobody is using the site. But it should at least look sort of familiar.

After the old forum was lost I spent several hours trying to track down whether any of the data could be saved, and unfortunately the answer was no. But if enough people are interested, the site can be reborn. It might take a few years because it wasnt always very active to begin with. It would be nice if we can get the core group back together but I also realize people have moved on with their lives and may not even have their old twins. I dont really have time to manage a forum but I did want to try and see the forum live again. Anyone who wants to run it or help run it is welcome. I’ll be working 2 jobs all summer so I’m booked.

Right now there’s nothing to run because theres nobody there, so get your friends and yourself over there now and start posting! If nobody uses it I’ve only lost a couple hours of my life. 😉
